Secretive waivers granted to oil companies by President Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have already destroyed demand for more than four billion gallons of homegrown biofuels, made from Iowa farm crops like soybeans and corn.
Rural communities continue to face hardship in the wake of COVID-19 and ongoing trade wars. Now, the agency is considering a plan to double-down on efforts to undermine the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) with retroactive handouts that would allow multi-billion-dollar oil companies to claim “hardship” exemptions from obligations dating as far back as 2011. And these retroactive handouts sidestep a court-ordered limit that helped ensure a more level playing field.
Rural America endured years of demand destruction and market instability at the hand of this EPA. Plants have shuttered, rural workers have been left jobless, and farmers have seen their markets decimated. The abuse must stop.
President Trump – Iowa farmers need your support now. Don’t let the EPA sabotage the rural economy.
